Description

CAES³AR (Collaborative and Efficient Scientific Software Support Architecture) is an open, discipline-independent initiative designed to improve the way research software is supported and maintained. The project aims to develop an infrastructure that automates and streamlines software support workflows. It aims to address challenges such as reproducing user issues, collaborative support in solving these and dealing with dependency-related problems, while fostering transparent collaboration between developers and users. By reducing the manual burden of technical support, CAES³AR ultimately aims to allow software-supporting research teams to focus more on scientific innovation and less on troubleshooting.

To engage the broader scientific open-source community and ensure that the system reflects real developer and user needs, we invite you to the CAES³AR Community Workshop, taking place online on December 5, 2025, from 09:00 to 13:00 (CET). This half-day event will introduce the project’s goals, present preliminary demos of the envisioned infrastructure, and provide an interactive space for participants to share experiences and feedback in using, developing and maintaining scientific open-source software. One goal of the project is to ensure that the community has a decisive role in determining what can be implemented. Through breakout sessions, live polls, and short lightning talks, attendees will help shape the outcome of this project and will thereby contribute to efficient and sustainable software support across scientific disciplines.
